OCC Construction’s An Cliathán Project for Galway City Council wins the prestigious ICE (Irish Construction Excellence Award) 2024 <€5m residential category. The residential project in Ballybane has earned national acclaim, following a thorough selection and interview process from the ICE judges. The award highlights the dedication to creating high-quality, sustainable housing for our community.
An Cliathán is a 15-unit sheltered housing scheme in Galway City, developed for Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe / Galway City Council. The development consists of two buildings: Block 1, with 12 units primarily for the elderly, and Block 2, with 3 units for families with special needs. Designed with a focus on quality and sustainability, the units feature traditional masonry construction and adhere to Department of Housing guidelines.
The project showcases innovative construction methods and utilized advanced software for streamlined management. An Cliathán prioritizes community engagement and safety, providing shared communal spaces and accessible features. Designed to age in place, the development aligns with city planning objectives and national frameworks, ensuring compliance with building regulations and energy efficiency standards. An Cliathán exemplifies construction excellence and represents a crucial step in addressing housing needs for elderly and disabled individuals in a well-integrated community setting.
