OCC Construction Appointed to Deliver €15.1m Housing Development in Tuam

OCC Construction is pleased to have been appointed by Galway County Council to deliver a new €15.1 million social housing development at Farrannamartin, Galway Road, Tuam, Co. Galway.

The project will provide 62 high-quality new homes, comprising a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses, apartments and bungalows, helping to meet the growing demand for housing in Tuam and the wider County Galway area.

Following the formal signing of the construction contract at Áras an Chontae, works are due to commence shortly, with completion targeted for April 2028.

Creating a Sustainable New Community

The 1.87-hectare development has been designed to create an attractive, accessible and sustainable residential environment for future residents.

At the heart of the scheme will be a central landscaped park, incorporating play facilities, seating, pedestrian routes and high-quality public open space. The overall layout places a strong emphasis on pedestrian safety, accessibility and active travel, while creating connections between homes and shared community spaces.

A number of homes within the development will also be universally designed or specially adapted, ensuring the scheme can accommodate residents with varying mobility and accessibility requirements.

Energy Performance and Sustainability

Sustainability and long-term building performance will be central to OCC Construction’s delivery of the project.

The new homes will be constructed in line with Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) requirements, with a focus on creating highly energy-efficient, comfortable and durable homes.

Through high-performance building fabrics, efficient building services and careful attention to airtightness, thermal performance and construction quality, the development will aim to minimise operational energy demand while providing comfortable internal environments for residents.

OCC Construction will also apply its established approach to responsible construction, waste management, quality assurance and efficient project delivery, supporting the long-term environmental performance of the development.

Delivering Quality Through Innovation

OCC Construction will bring its experience in the delivery of large-scale residential and social housing developments to Farrannamartin.

The project will be supported by our established approach to Lean Construction, digital project management, BIM-led coordination and robust quality control, helping the project team manage interfaces, programme, quality and construction sequencing from commencement through to final handover.

Early coordination with Galway County Council, the design team, specialist subcontractors and the wider supply chain will be central to ensuring programme certainty and maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and buildability throughout the project.

Building for Tuam’s Future

The development represents a significant investment in the future of Tuam and will provide much-needed homes within close proximity to local schools, shops, services and public transport.

OCC Construction looks forward to working in partnership with Galway County Council and the wider project team to deliver a high-quality development that provides lasting value for residents and contributes positively to the continued growth of Tuam.

For OCC Construction, the project reflects our wider commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality developments that strengthen the communities in which we work.
